Lombardozzi continues in groove following promotion to Triple-A

Nationals prospect Steve Lombardozzi has been promoted to the Triple-A Syracuse Chiefs after being with the Double-A Harrisburg Senators since the beginning of the season. In 65 games with the Senators, Lombardozzi batted .309 with 12 doubles, seven triples, four homers, 23 RBIs and16 stolen bases. In his first four games with the Chiefs, Lombardozzi has hit 7-for-18 (.389) with two doubles, one RBI and four runs scored. The 22-year old from Fulton, Md., is playing second base, but has experience at other infield positions. Nationals director of player development Doug Harris believes Lombardozzi has one of the best work ethics in baseball. "He is a model of consistency," Harris said. "He is very detailed in all phases of his game. He has got great instincts. "(Lombardozzi) is not blessed with tremendous tools, but he gets more out of what he has than most guys. He continues to put himself in position to be recognized at the big leagues." Harris said it is a little premature to talk about September call-ups for guys like Lombardozzi, Chris Marrero and others. But they have had internal discussions about players they believe could make that next step.
