Machado, Schoop and Hoes on the same field in Baltimore, not Bowie

Watching Manny Machado, LJ Hoes and Jonathan Schoop all play in the same game last night, I could have been easily confused and thought I was watching a game at Single-A Frederick or Double-A Bowie. But this was Baltimore, this was the big leagues, and those O's developed players all had good moments in the game last night. Schoop's single put the Orioles ahead in the seventh. Schoop has four RBIs his last three games. When he bats eighth, Schoop is hitting just .146 but as the No. 9 hitter over 15 games he's batting .302 with six doubles, a homer, eight RBIs and an .811 OPS. Yeah, that's good production from that spot in the order. Schoop is also settling in nicely with the glove at second base now that Machado is back at third. "More reps there," Schoop said of his defense at second. "Bobby Dickerson has been working with me a lot, along with J.J Hardy and Manny Machado. I feel really good around those guys and if you play with good players, you get better too." It's neat for Schoop to share the same infield again with Machado. The duo were the double-play combo for Frederick when the Keys won the Carolina League championship in 2011. "I've played with him since Delmarva," Schoop said. "Me and him are like brothers. And we've got J.J. in the middle. Those guys make me better." Hoes had a solid game in his return to Camden Yards. He was the Orioles' third-round pick in 2008 out of St. John's High in Washington D.C. Before Friday's game, Hoes talked about how special it was to be back in Baltimore and how excited he was to play at Camden Yards. He had 30 family and friends watching in the stands, including his parents, grandmother and girlfriend and her family. Many of them live in the Bowie area. Now Hoes is a 24-year-old outfielder trying to make it in the majors with an organization that is rebuilding with young talent. "It's good," Hoes said. "We are growing and building together. We have a lot of young talent on this team. We are just trying to compete day-by-day and learn to compete at the major league level. "I'm doing OK. Learning my role now, only playing against lefties. Trying to adjust to not playing every day and trying to stay sharp. Just have to go out and relax. I think early in the season I was putting a lot of pressure on myself and it caused me to struggle some. Now trying to relax and have fun." After a rough 0-for-20 stretch, Hoes is 4-for-5 his last two games with an RBI. He will always have a soft spot for the O's organization that drafted and developed him before his trade to Houston last July. "Yeah, always," Hoes said. "They helped me out a lot. Brian Graham, Buck Showalter, Bobby Dickerson. Spent many years with them and they helped my development a lot. Manny and Schoop were my teammates for a couple of years and Adam (Jones) is like my big brother." For an Orioles farm system that has been criticized for many years, last night was not a bad night. There was Manny, Schoop and Hoes. There were O's first-round picks Nick Markakis, Matt Wieters and Machado. There were players that were acquired in trades involving O's draft picks. Players like Hardy and Jones. Fans in Aberdeen, Salisbury, Frederick, Bowie and Norfolk have seen some of those young players on their way up. If they were at Camden Yards last night, they got another look. Davis in Bowie tonight: O's first baseman Chris Davis will play a rehab game at Double-A Bowie tonight.
