Man with gun reported outside Viera courthouse near Space Coast Stadium

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - Multiple outlets are reporting that a man with a gun is outside the Viera courthouse, just down the street from the Nationals' spring training facility at Space Coast Stadium. Reports of the incident first started circulating before 10:30 a.m., and Florida Today has recently reported that the man with the gun is still outside the Moore Justice Center, occasionally pacing in front of the building. A Nationals official provided the following statement within the last half hour in regard to the Nats' complex at Space Coast Stadium: "The building is secure and everybody is safe. All the gates are secure. Players are on the field or in the clubhouse. We are monitoring the situation." A large contingent of Nationals players, coaches and staffers are here in Port St. Lucie for this afternoon's game against the Mets, but the players not on the trip were expected to report to Space Coast Stadium this morning for workouts. Florda Today reported that the Viera courthouse has been locked down while a "a swarm of armed sheriff's deputies" attempted to negotiate with the man with the gun.
