Mancini named Most Valuable Oriole

Outfielder/first baseman Trey Mancini has been named Most Valuable Oriole by members of the media covering the team, an honor that he's collecting while in the midst of another hot streak at the plate.

Mancini enters tonight's game with a .286/.356/.536 slash line, 36 doubles, two triples, 34 home runs, 93 RBIs, 100 runs scored and 56 walks. He's tied for second among American League outfielders in total bases (305), third in runs scored, tied for third in hits (163), fourth in doubles, sixth in RBIs, seventh in home runs and eighth in OPS (.892).

The former eighth-round pick out of the University of Notre Dame is one of only three players in the AL to amass at least 34 home runs and 34 doubles.

Mancini, the Astros' Alex Bregman and the Nationals' Anthony Rendon are the only players in the majors to total at least 35 doubles, 34 home runs and 100 runs scored this season

As the Mariners arrive at Camden Yards tonight to begin a three-game series, Mancini has gone 26-for-71 this month for a .366 average. He collected four hits last night against the Blue Jays and is 10-for-18 with four doubles, two home runs and 10 RBIs in the past four games.

Mancini will receive the MVO Award prior to Sunday's game, the last at home this season.

Voting is done on a 5-3-1 point basis. Also receiving votes were Jonathan Villar, Hanser Alberto, John Means, Renato Núñez and Anthony Santander.

The Orioles don't make the ballots public, but I know that Mancini wasn't a unanimous choice for first place. Had to be pretty close, though.

Mancini leads the Orioles in doubles, home runs, RBI, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, OPS and total bases. He's made 81 starts in the outfield, including 78 in right and three in left, and 48 at first bases.

In addition to MVO, Mancini also was named the Orioles Heart and Hustle Award winner for the first time.

The season leaves more room for Mancini to build on his accomplishments.

Mancini became the 10th different player (15th time) in Orioles history to record a season with at least 30 doubles, 30 home runs, and 100 runs scored. Mancini and Villar the first set of Orioles teammates to each score over 100 runs in the same season since Chris Davis and Manny Machado in 2015.

It's the 11th time in club history that at least two players scored 100 runs or more in the same season. And he's one home run shy of recording the seventh 35-plus home run and 35-plus double season in Orioles history.
