Markakis and Reyes lead the O's to a win in the homestand finale

Nick Markakis had his most productive RBI day in over two months, driving in four runs this afternoon, as the Orioles beat Detroit 8-5 behind Jo-Jo Reyes to take the series finale this afternoon in front of 18,348 at Camden Yards. The Orioles ended their 10-game homestand going 3-7 and are 46-72 on the year as they now head on a West Coast road trip. The Orioles took an 8-1 lead to the ninth, but Kevin Gregg came on and six straight Tigers reached to make the score 8-4. Jim Johnson came in with the bases loaded and no outs. He got the final three outs as Detroit added one more run and picked up his second save. Markakis went 3-for-5 with a first inning two-run homer, and RBI singles in the fifth and sixth. The four-RBI game was his biggest RBI day since he drove in six runs on June 10 against Tampa Bay. Markakis also extended his series hit streak with his three-hit day after going 0-for-8 the first two games against Detroit. He now has a hit in 178 consecutive series. Adam Jones went 3-for-3 with an RBI and Nolan Reimold, batting leadoff, had three hits, including two doubles and scored three runs. Vladimir Guerrero added a two-run single as the Orioles had 14 hits. The O's eight runs is their most since an 8-2 win on Aug. 2 at Kansas City. Reyes, meanwhile, was sharp in his second Orioles' start. He gave up just four hits and one run - a Ramon Santiago homer - over six innings, throwing 93 pitches. Reyes is now 6-9 on the season with an ERA of 5.30. Reyes produced just the third quality start in the last 16 games by an O's starter. Despite the win, the Orioles lost the series, two wins to one. They have lost 12 and tied one in their past 13 series since taking two of three from the Reds June 24-26. Monday night, they begin a 10-game trip at Oakland with Tommy Hunter (1-2, 4.67) pitching against Gio Gonzalez (9-10, 3.25).
