Markakis uncertain about opening day

The Orioles are working out indoors today because of the rain. Camden Yards Workout.jpgThey haven't posted a lineup due to the uncertain status of right fielder Nick Markakis, who was scratched from yesterday's lineup in Norfolk with neck stiffness. Markakis received treatment again today and told me that his neck is "much better than yesterday." Asked about playing on opening day, he replied, "I don't know." Neither does manager Buck Showalter, who's written two lineups for Monday - one with Markakis and one without him. Showalter was hoping for more improvement overnight. He's may allow Markakis to rest Monday and again the following day with an open date on the schedule. Tommy Hunter hasn't been told whether he's the closer, but that's the assumption. The Red Sox haven't posted a lineup, either, because of Shane Victorino's uncertain status. Chris Davis lent a hand to Showalter by placing his name atop the order on the magnetic board. He's also got himself catching. Davis told Matt Wieters that he could be the designated hitter. Don't think that's going to work for Showalter, however. The Orioles still haven't announced the moves to clear space for Evan Meek and Delmon Young on the 40-man roster. Showalter said Jonathan Schoop made the team largely based on how "engaged" he was on defense. Barlow Memorial.pngThe press box has new chairs for the reporters and televisions hanging from the ceiling to provide unobstructed views. But the most touching addition is a plaque mounted on the facing of the second row of seats behind the chair normally occupied by public relations director Monica Pence Barlow, who passed away on Feb. 28. It reads: In Memory of Monica Pence Barlow 1977-2014
