More from last night's loss in Toronto

TORONTO – A few of the firsts are out of the way for Kyle Stowers.

The first hit, first double, first RBI, first hit by pitch.

The first time that his family was brought to tears in a major league game.

Stowers lined a Julian Merryweather fastball, clocked at 95.7 mph, into left-center field for a double that scored Adley Rutschman in the seventh inning of an 11-1 loss to the Blue Jays.

Merryweather left the game with an injury, one of many odd moments of the night. Like the challenge in the sixth inning that lasted longer than batting practice and resulted in the Orioles getting the call overturned, and Trey Mancini walking from first base to the dugout after striking out.

Stowers searched for his family in the stands, which included his mother Sheri, fiancée Emma and her parents Mike and Denise. He raised his right fist twice and smiled. The Orioles retrieved the ball for him.

"Wish we could have gotten a win tonight,” he said, “but it was cool to get that out of the way."

Stowers’ intro to the majors was a three-pitch strikeout against early Cy Young Award candidate Alek Manoah to end the second inning. A 94 mph sinker followed by two sliders.

Manoah became the seventh player in the modern era (since 1901) to win at least 17 of his first 20 career decisions as a starter and the first since Oakland's Vida Blue went 17-3 from 1969-71.

Does Stowers remain in the lineup tonight against Jays left-hander Yusei Kikuchi?

He’s here. Makes sense to keep playing him until Anthony Santander returns to the club in Baltimore.

Rutschman reached on an infield single with one out in the seventh inning after grounding into the shift, busting it down the line in a 10-0 game. You can bet that everyone noticed in the dugout.

A 1-for-4 night left Rutschman with a .183 average and .524 OPS. His missing firsts after 19 games include a home run and RBI.

Kyle Bradish had some impressive moments in his start, but he threw 29 pitches in the first inning – with four consecutive three-ball counts – and went 3-2 on Cavan Biggio in the second.

Alejandro Kirk got ahead 3-0 in the first and scored George Springer with a single into center field. Can't live in hitters' counts.

Manager Brandon Hyde pushed Bradish to 105 pitches in 4 2/3 innings in the rookie’s previous start. He was removed last night after 90 pitches in 4 1/3.

The two inherited runners that scored against Logan Gillaspie left Bradish with a 6.86 ERA. He didn’t surrender a home run for the first time in nine career starts.

The Blue Jays are a season-high 12 games above .500 after winning 14 of their last 18 games and 19 of 27. They have a seven-game winning streak against the Orioles, outscoring them 83-29.

Over the last seven games, Toronto starters have gone 5-1 with a 1.19 ERA in 37 2/3 innings, allowing one earned run or fewer on six occasions.
