More notes before today's exhibition opener

SARASOTA, Fla. - Once Orioles left-hander Brian Matusz completes his start on Monday, he will be followed to the mound by Mark Hendrickson, Daniel McCutchen and Pedro Strop. Those are the only confirmed pitchers for the Orioles. Others will be used, of course. Starters are expected to work one inning in their first turns before logging two innings in their next outings. The Yankees are sending pitchers Vidal Nuno, Bryan Mitchell, Corey Black and Shane Greene to Sarasota on Monday. I've already passed along that the Toronto Blue Jays are starting Mark Buehrle on Sunday. Other Blue Jays scheduled to pitch include Sergio Santos, Aaron Loup, Jeremy Jeffress, Chad Jenkins, Alex Hinshaw and Tommy Hottovy. Manager Buck Showalter repeated that the Orioles will make sure Dylan Bundy and Kevin Gausman are available to pitch for them later in the summer by monitoring their innings in the minors. "They're going to have an inning count that allows them to do whatever we want them to do in August, September and October for the major league club, if they pitch well enough to be in that mix," Showalter said. Showalter paused before adding, "Provided they don't make this club out of spring." A small smile creased his face. Bundy made two relief appearances for the Orioles in September, and Showalter indicated that Bundy and Gausman could work in relief if they're promoted to the majors this summer. "That's the way it used to be done," Showalter said. "Ask Scotty McGregor and he'd go on a 10-minute dissertation about it." A group of Orioles minor league prospects will play games at Al Lang Field in St. Petersburg on March 10 against the Philadelphia Phillies and March 14 against the Atlanta Braves. And finally, check out the guy modeling the new Astros uniform.
