More on Orioles' 40-man roster and personnel changes (updated)

The Orioles' 40-man roster continues to hold 39 players after the Mariners claimed outfielder John Andreoli yesterday afternoon. However, it's going down to 36 with pitcher Sean Gilmartin and infielders Jace Peterson and Corban Joseph also on outright waivers, their names appearing on the wire.

Pitcher Gabriel Ynoa is on the 60-day disabled list, but he won't be activated and placed on the 40-man.

None of the moves were unexpected.

gabriel-ynoa-black-sidebar.jpgYnoa didn't pitch for the Orioles this season, opening the season on the disabled list with shin splints and later going on the 60-day DL with a shoulder injury. His support within the organization melted away.

The Orioles purchased Ynoa's contract from the Mets on Feb. 10, 2017, but he made only nine appearances, including four starts, and went 2-3 with a 4.15 ERA and 1.356 WHIP in 34 2/3 innings.

Gilmartin posted a 3.00 ERA in 12 relief appearances this summer and allowed only two runs in his last four games totaling 13 2/3 innings. The Orioles signed him on July 13.

Peterson is eligible for arbitration and MLBTradeRumors.com projects that he'll receive $1.3 million, a steep price for the Orioles to pay for a utility infielder. They could attempt to re-sign him to a minor league deal after he batted .195/.308/.325 with 13 doubles, two triples, three home runs and 28 RBIs in 93 games.

Selected off waivers from the Yankees on April 24, Peterson played third base, second base, shortstop, left field and right field, and pitched one inning in an emergency relief role.

Joseph, the younger brother of catcher Caleb Joseph, was outrighted over the summer and had his contract selected again on Sept. 7. He made the Eastern League's All-Star Team and went 4-for-18 with the Orioles.

The four open spots will be used to activate pitchers Richard Bleier and Pedro Araujo and outfielders Mark Trumbo and Austin Hays.

Other moves are expected later to create spots for pitcher Dillon Tate and catcher Martin Cervenka.

Catcher Andrew Susac likely will be removed later this month.

Meanwhile, the sweeping changes already taking place in the front office and various departments also include director of professional scouting and special projects Patrick Di Gregory and assistant director of minor league and international operations Cale Cox. Their contracts won't be renewed for 2019.

Many of the employee contracts expired on Oct. 31, but others run through November.

The Orioles promoted Di Gregory in June 2016 to oversee professional scouting operations and complete special baseball operations projects. He had served as coordinator of baseball operations for parts of three seasons after working as an intern with the Pirates during the 2012 season.

Cox previously worked as a player development coordinator.

Note: The Orioles announced that FanFest will be held on Jan. 26 at the Baltimore Convention Center. More details to follow.

Autograph stations, fan forums and memorabilia sales will return to the annual event. Fans also will get a chance to meet the new front office and managerial hires. The coaching staff also figures to undergo significant changes.

There could be a few new players, as well.

Check www.orioles.com/FanFest for more information as it becomes available.

Update: The Orioles announced that they outrighted Ynoa, Gilmartin, Peterson and Joseph to Triple-A Norfolk. Ynoa and Joseph signed minor league deals, while Peterson and Gilmartin chose free agency.

The 40-man roster is down to 36.
