Nats place Cavalli on injured list, recall Abbott

The Washington Nationals recalled right-handed pitcher Cory Abbott from Triple-A Rochester and placed right-handed pitcher Cade Cavalli on the 15-day Injured List (retroactive to Aug. 28) with right shoulder inflammation on Wednesday. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement.

Abbott, 26, returns for his fourth stint with the Nationals this season. He is 0–2 with a 4.74 ERA in eight games (four starts) with Washington. He struck out 23 in 24.2 innings, while walking 12. He did not appear in a game for Triple-A Rochester after being optioned on Aug. 24.

Cavalli, 24, made one start for the Nationals. He allowed seven runs on six hits and struck out six in 4.1 innings in his Major League debut on Aug. 26.
