The Nationals have signed right-hander Bruce Billings to a minor league deal with an invitation to big league spring training, the team announced today.
Billings, 29, was a 30th-round pick of the Rockies in the 2007 draft. He's appeared in just five big league games in his career, allowing 12 earned runs in 11 innings.
He made one appearance for the Yankees in 2014, allowing four runs in four innings, with seven strikeouts and a walk.
It was his first appearance in a big league game since 2011.
Primarily used as a starter in his pro career (although all five of his major league appearances have been in relief), Billings pitched to a 5.27 ERA in the minors in 2014. He split his time between Double-A and Triple-A.
Billings was released by the Yankees in August, signed with the Dodgers five days later and then was granted free agency in early November.
