CHICAGO - And so the Nationals' season has come down to this: They need to win Game 4 of the National League Division Series at Wrigley Field and force a winner-take-all Game 5 at Nationals Park on Thursday night.
All of this, of course, is assuming they're able to play today. Your early-afternoon weather update: It's not raining yet, but the rain is on the way, and it's going to hit sometime later this afternoon. It's just a question of whether the rain is significant enough to prevent the game from being played. Regardless, the temperature has dropped about 15 degrees, and the wind is now blowing straight in from center field, creating a very different environment than we had yesterday.
Speaking of different, the Nationals have a different lineup. The names are the same, but the order is different. Dusty Baker has decided to move Jayson Werth up the No. 2 spot, with Anthony Rendon moving down to the No. 6 spot. Bryce Harper is hitting third. Say what you want about lineup construction, but this is a lineup that worked well for the Nats earlier this season. They're going to have to hope it works again today against Jake Arrieta.
Tanner Roark, meanwhile, makes the most important start of his life. And he's doing it just outside his hometown of Wilmington, Ill., with family and friends in the stands. (FYI: Roark grew up a Cubs fan, same as his mother, but his father is a White Sox and Cardinals fan. A lot of loyalties being tested here today.)
