Not again: O's fall 5-0 at Toronto

This time, the Orioles got good starting pitching. In fact, they got excellent starting pitching. Yet, they still lost to Toronto. The Jays posted a 5-0 win over the Orioles Wednesday to sweep this three-game series and improve to 12-0 vs. the O's on the season. Toronto got just one run off O's starter Jeremy Guthrie and led 1-0 heading to the last of the eighth before they scored four vs. the O's bullpen to break open the game. Will Ohman came on to replace Koji Uehara with a man on second and two outs and Adam Lind singled to right for a 2-0 lead. Lind went to second on the throw home, and, after an intentional walk, Lyle Overbay hit a three-run homer to left center for a 5-0 lead. It was his 12th homer of the year and Toronto's 24th vs. the Orioles on the year. Lefty Brad Mills got the win, giving up just two singles over seven shutout innings. He was called up from Triple-A to make this start and picked up his first Major League win in his third big league start. Guthrie allowed just the single run and it was unearned and he falls to 4-11, 4.23 on the year as he gave up six hits in seven innings, throwing 106 pitches. His ERA is 1.31 in three starts since the All-Star break. Toronto took the lead in the last of the second. Vernon Wells begin the inning with a single. The next hitter, Lind, singled to left. Wells, running on the pitch, was headed to third when left fielder Cory Patterson misplayed the ball and he came around to score an unearned run. Toronto has outscored the Birds 70-23 on the season. The Orioles have lost 11 in a row at Rogers Centre and are just 2-20 in their past 22 games there. The Orioles were held to three hits and were shutout for the 7th time while Toronto pitched its 8th shutout of 2010. The O's have batted just .228 as a team with 89 hits vs. Toronto and have scored two runs or less in ten of the 12 games. The O's scored just seven runs and went 1 for 17 in this series. They are 2-11 in the second half and fall to 31-70 on the year as they now head to Kansas City to continue their road trip on Thursday night.
