SARASOTA, Fla. - Jake Arrieta will oppose Jason Hammel in Friday's intrasquad game at Ed Smith Stadium. Other pitchers will include Kevin Gregg, Matt Lindstrom, Brian Matusz, Alfredo Simon, Dana Eveland, Darren O'Day, Pedro Strop, Zach Phillips, Brad Bergesen, Troy Patton and Miguel Socolovich. Luis Ayala and Armando Galarraga will start Saturday's intrasquad game, unless manager Buck Showalter decides to replace one of them with Wei-Yin Chen. Either way, they're scheduled to throw. Chris Tillman, Pat Neshek, Oliver Drake, Jon Link, Dylan Bundy and Steve Johnson also will pitch. Everyone is expected to throw one inning. And no, the games aren't open to the public, but fans still can head to the back fields and watch players work out. As for the Grapefruit League schedule, you already know that Simon is starting Monday's 1:05 p.m. game in Port Charlotte, and Matusz is starting the 7:05 p.m. game in Sarasota. Tommy Hunter and Eveland will pitch Tuesday against the Red Sox in Fort Myers. Chen and Tillman will pitch Wednesday against the Twins in Sarasota. Hammel and Galarraga will pitch in the March 8 game against the Braves in Sarasota, Jake Arrieta will start the March 9 game against the Rays in Port Charlotte, and Simon and Matusz will pitch in the March 10 game against the Phillies in Clearwater. Hunter apparently has been dealing with some lower-back tightness, but he threw yesterday without any restrictions and has been cleared to start Tuesday. Taylor Teagarden has been brought along carefully after undergoing a second knee surgery last month, but he'll catch in the intrasquad games. "T's doing great," Showalter said. Tsuyoshi Wada could be cleared to play catch tomorrow after having his left elbow drained on Sunday and receiving a cortisone injection. Manny Machado and Jonathan Schoop will play in the intrasquad games and in Monday's split-squad games. Their body fat is down from last spring, but their weight is up. Nick Markakis had a "good day," according to Showalter. Markakis, recovering from abdominal surgery, picked up the intensity in the batting cage. "He turned it loose a little bit," Showalter said. "He took it to a level he hadn't been at. You could see him getting the bat through the zone with a little more effort to test it." Markakis and Brian Roberts are the only Orioles who definitely won't play in the intrasquad games. Roberts took some swings against Terry Crowley in the covered batting cage. We'll call it light live batting practice. Pitcher Oscar Villarreal left camp to attend to some immigration issues, but he's expected back tomorrow. Bundy was told that the hitters he faced today had good things to say about him. "Good, I'm happy," he replied. "I was happy with it. I felt good today. My arm feels good. My body feels good." It's hard to tell whether Bundy is happy because he's always got such a serious look on his face. The kid is all business. Is he having fun? "Definitely," he said. "I probably don't look like it, but I never do. I enjoy every minute of it. It's a privilege to be here and I'm glad I can be here." Caleb Joseph caught Bundy and said the ball "really zips out of his hand." "He's calm, cool and collected for a young guy," Joseph added. "It's pretty impressive to see how much composure, how much body control he has. He's not really everywhere. He's really compact. "His off-speed stuff and his fastball, they had a really tight spin and were very effective. The amount of feel he has for his changeup, being a power guy and as young as he is, is very impressive. Very impressive. It was fun to catch him." Bundy threw his four- and two-seam fastballs, cutter, changeup and curveball. "And everything had a very tight spin, and that's one thing that, the few pitchers that I've caught who have been very dominant, they all have that same spin, that very tight, late action," Joseph said. "He has it. He's going to be real special and he's going to be a big addition to the Orioles in the near future."
