Notes on Britton and Reynolds (and Betemit)

Triple-A Norfolk pitcher Zach Britton left tonight's game in Toledo after being hit on the side of the ankle by a hard one-hopper from Danny Worth. No updates are available at this time. Worth reached on an infield hit with two outs in the sixth inning as the ball rolled to Tides first baseman Steve Clevenger. Tim Alderson replaced Britton and stranded Worth by retiring former Orioles catcher Ronny Paulino. Britton allowed two runs and six hits in 5 2/3 innings, with four walks and six strikeouts. He threw 99 pitches, 59 for strikes. Britton has given up seven earned runs in his last three starts covering 16 2/3 innings. He's walked 10 batters and struck out 12 in his last two starts over 10 2/3 innings. In case you missed it, the Yankees have signed former Orioles infielder Mark Reynolds. CBSSports.com first reported it. The Orioles had internal discussions about Reynolds, but they didn't advance beyond that point. Sounds a lot like what happened over the winter, before Reynolds signed a one-year, $6 million deal with the Indians. Wilson Betemit is 1-for-2 with a walk, run scored and strikeout tonight in his second game with Double-A Bowie. Betemit is batting third and serving as the designated hitter. Update: Betemit just delivered an RBI single in the eighth inning.
