Notes on Jones, Gausman, Schoop and more (plus Indians lineup)

The Orioles are one regular-season win shy of 5,000 since the franchise moved to Baltimore in 1954. They have two chances today to reach the mark with a split-doubleheader against the Indians at Camden Yards.

Manager Buck Showalter said he hasn't decided whether Adam Jones will play in Game 2. Jones is in center field for Game 1 after throwing three consecutive days without shoulder discomfort.

Jones could stay in center field for Game 2, serve as the designated hitter or move to the bench.

Kevin Gausman will be limited to two or three innings today at Triple-A Norfolk, leaving him as an option to start Thursday against the Rangers at Camden Yards. I'd rate him as the favorite.

gausman-pitching-white-sidebar.pngShowalter said he won't switch to a six-man rotation beyond possibly inserting Gausman for Thursday.

Gausman wasn't used as the 26th man today to start Game 2 because the Orioles were short a reliever. Showalter chose to bring back left-hander T.J. McFarland, who was in the clubhouse this morning.

Today's assignment doesn't count against McFarland's 10 days that he's required to stay in the minors before being recalled.

Second baseman Jonathan Schoop is working out today at Camden Yards. He could be activated from the disabled list Monday or sent to Norfolk to continue his rehab assignment.

Sending Schoop to Norfolk would delay a difficult roster decision.

Showalter listed a few reasons why Chris Davis is in right field again today, including how he's just as good there as first base and that the position actually is easier on his legs. He said Davis embraces it and much prefers right field over left due to the angle of the ball coming off the bat.

Manny Machado is batting .429 (15-for-35) with three doubles, a home run and seven RBIs during his eight-game hitting streak.

The Orioles lead the majors with a .319 average with runners in scoring position.
