O's game blog: It's Jimenez on the mound for Game 1 (Rajsich comments on Stewart)

Since they moved to Baltimore in 1954, the Orioles have 4,999 regular season wins. Today, they get two cracks at No. 5,000 while hosting Cleveland in a day-night doublheader.

The Orioles look to continue their recent winning ways this afternoon in Game 1. Before Saturday's rainout, the Orioles won the series opener 4-3 on Friday night to improve to 5-2 against the American League Central and to 11-10 in one-run games. They are 14-12 in the first game of a series.

Looking to go a season-high six games over .500, the Orioles (39-34) have won five of six, eight of 11, 14 of 18 and 16 of the last 21 games.

They are 8-1 in their last nine home games and 23-13 at Camden Yards for the season.

Former Indian Ubaldo Jimenez (6-3, 3.40 ERA) gets the start in Game 1 against Cleveland's Trevor Bauer (6-4, 3.86).

Jimenez pitched to an ERA of 1.59 in April, 4.34 in May and 3.90 in June. Over his past three starts, he is 3-0 with an ERA of 4.86.

In six home starts, Jimenez is 4-1 with a 2.48 ERA and .227 batting average against.

Bauer was the third overall pick in Round 1 of the 2011 draft by Arizona out of UCLA. He was traded to Cleveland on Dec. 11, 2012 in a deal that also involved Cincinnati.

While he has an ERA of 6.49 in home games, Bauer is 4-1 with a 1.10 ERA in six road starts in 2015. That is the second-best road ERA in the majors behind Chris Archer of Tampa Bay at 0.90. Bauer is 3-0 with a 2.87 ERA in five day games.

In his only career start against the Orioles, he allowed four earned runs over 4 1/3 innings on May 25, 2014.

Gary Rajsich on DJ Stewart: The Orioles made it official with today's announcement that they have agreed to terms with Florida State outfielder DJ Stewart, their top draft pick. Stewart, selected No. 25 overall, will report to short-season Single-A Aberdeen today begin his pro career.

O's scouting director Gary Rajsich talked with reporters before today's game about the club's signing of Stewart. Stewart is expected to get a slot bonus amount of $2,064,500. That is the exact slot value for the No. 25 pick in Round 1 of the draft.

Rajsich said the negotiation process went smoothly.

"Very good. I thought everything went well, there was very little disagreement over the issues," he said. "I would say it took longer than it needed to, just because we were kind of on his representative's timetable. We did things basically at their pace, but the negotiation was fairly easy."

Rajsich said it might be a couple days before he gets in a game. Will Stewart stay at Aberdeen the rest of this summer?

"That is up to (director of player development) Brian Graham and player development to see where he is at," he said. "It is a process to professionalize these kids. He's played obviously a high level and is more polished than most kids. In college, he didn't see the kind of pitching he will see here every day. There are a lot of things for him to learn."

Rajsich feels the O's are well on their way to signing Jonathan Hughes, a high school pitcher from Georgia taken in Round 2 with the 68th pick.

"I'm pretty confident, the dialogue has been really good," he said.

The Orioles have now signed 34 draft picks and they may still add two or three more, Rajsich said.
