O's game blog: Aaron Brooks faces Blue Jays

Right-hander Aaron Brooks (2-4, 5.46 ERA) makes his 20th appearance and 11th as a starter tonight between Oakland and Baltimore this year. He threw pretty well in his first two games with the Orioles, after they selected him off waivers July 6 from the Athletics. But his last two have not gone well.

In starts at Arizona and Anaheim on the West Coast trip, he went a combined 8 2/3 innings allowing 16 hits and 11 runs (10 earned) with two walks and seven strikeouts. He gave up just one run in 5 1/3 in his first two games as an Oriole.

Originally drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the ninth round of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft (No. 276 overall) out of California State University San Bernardino.

Right-hander Wilmer Font (3-2, 5.09 ERA) gets the start for Toronto. He was acquired by the Blue Jays from the Mets for cash considerations July 17. He also has pitched for Tampa Bay this season. In four games for Toronto he has thrown eight innings, allowing nine hits and four runs with one walk and nine strikeouts.

The Blue Jays (44-67) hit five home runs last night in an 11-2 win over the Orioles (36-72). Baltimore pitchers allowed 10 or more runs for the 20th time and five or more homers for the 14th time in the opener of a four-game series and 10-game homestand.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit a two-run homer in the third and belted a 450-foot solo shot in the eighth for his second multi-homer game. He became the third-youngest player in American League history with two multi-HR games, behind Ken Griffey Jr. in 1989 and Manny Machado in 2012. Over his past five games, he is 11-for-25 with three doubles, four homers and 16 RBIs.
