O's game blog: Looking for a series win at Seattle

SEATTLE - After their thrilling 1-0 win in 10 innings at T-Mobile Park on Saturday night, the Orioles return today with a chance to win this series against a red-hot Mariners club.

A club that had an eight-game win streak snapped last night. Despite the loss, the Mariners (63-53) have still won 10 of 12 and 16 of the last 21 games. Seattle is 25-11 since July 1.

The Orioles (72-45) needed to win to end last night with a two-game lead atop the American League East and they did. They are now 7-5 in extra-inning games while Seattle is 5-10.

The Orioles are 18-10 in the second half and 36-22 on the road.

They have won six of nine, nine of 13, 13 of 20 and 23 of their past 33 games.

For the Mariners, Ty France drew his 28th and 29th walks of the season to pick up his fifth multi-walk game, and he was hit by a pitch also. It marked his 19th game reaching base three or more times, and the first time he has reached that many times without recording a hit. He, Julio Rodríguez and Eugenio Suárez as the only Mariners batters to reach three or more times in a game without a hit this season.

Cal Raleigh hit his 18th double of the season in the sixth inning to extend his on-base streak to 11 games. During this span seven of Raleigh’s nine hits have been extra-base hits, including six home runs.

Ryan Mountcastle drove in Cedric Mullins with a single in the 10th inning for the game-winning run. With two hits on the night, Mountcastle picked up his 19th multi-hit game of the year. He has now reached base in a career-high 19 consecutive games, and his streak ties for the second-longest active on-base streak in the American League.

Jordan Westburg picked up a single and stole his third base of the season in the ninth inning.

Ryan O’Hearn and Mullins each picked up a stolen base in the 9th inning, O’Hearn’s third and Mullins’ 15th of the season.

Lefty Cole Irvin pitched five scoreless innings on 67 pitches and has a 2.20 ERA over his last six starts. O's starting pitchers have allowed three earned runs or fewer in 14 of their last 15 games. 

The Baltimore bullpen has thrown 7 2/3 scoreless innings this series, giving up just two hits.

Right-hander Kyle Bradish (7-6, 3.19 ERA) gets todays start, his 22nd. The Orioles are 13-8 in his outings. He is coming off a start when he pitched 4 2/3 scoreless against the Mets, but he walked a season-high five batters.

Bradish has allowed two earned runs or fewer in eight of his last 10 starts, going 5-4 with a 2.30 ERA in that span. 

Right Bryce Miller (7-4, 4.20 ERA) starts for Seattle. In his last three games he has allowed six, six and one run for 7.16 ERA. In nine home starts, he is 5-2 with a 3.49 ERA.
