O's game blog: Orioles looking for first win in Seattle series

The Orioles have lost the first two games of their series with Seattle by 5-3 and 3-2 scores. Tonight, the clubs meet at Oriole Park in the third game of a four-game series.

The Orioles have scored just eight runs on 18 hits and have gone 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position over the past three games. They have scored three runs or less in five of their past seven games.

The Orioles have homered in 10 straight games, hitting 16 in that time. That is their second longest homer streak of the 2018 season. They hit at least one in 12 straight games from May 6-19.

Last night, right-hander Kevin Gausman tossed the Orioles' 37th quality start of the season. That number ranks fifth in the American League and seventh in the majors. O's starters have quality starts in five of the last six games with an ERA of 3.57. But Orioles starters have received 177 runs of support, the fewest in the majors.

sidebar-Trumbo-white-HR.jpgMark Trumbo extended his season-high hitting streak to 10 games going 1-for-4 on Tuesday and is hitting .353/.405/.853 (12-for-34) during this stretch, with two doubles, five home runs and 11 RBIs. The 10-game streak marks his longest hitting streak since hitting in 10 straight from July 2-15, 2017. It is the second-longest streak by an Oriole this season - Adam Jones and Manny Machado had 11-game streaks.

The Mariners lead the season series 2-0. The Orioles will travel to Seattle for a three-game set from Sept. 3-5. Baltimore won the season series 4-2 in 2017, including a three-game sweep at Oriole Park from Aug. 28-30 which is their last three-game sweep. The Orioles lead the all-time series 222-191.

With last night's 3-2 win over the Orioles, the Mariners improved to 24-11 (.686) in one-run games. Seattle leads the majors in one-run wins and games played while posting the second-best winning percentage in contests decided by one run, behind only Atlanta 12-5 (.706). The Mariners are 10-5 in one-run games on the road this season

Coming off what was perhaps his best start of the year, right-hander Alex Cobb (2-9, 6.56 ERA) makes his 14th start tonight for Baltimore. Cobb allowed four hits and one run in seven innings at Atlanta on Friday. Over his past four starts, he has given up one, nine, five and one runs. In four home starts, he is 0-4 with a 5.92 ERA. In seven career starts against Seattle, he is 2-4 with a 6.81 ERA.

Lefty Wade LeBlanc (3-0, 3.26 ERA) gets the start for Seattle. Two starts ago, he threw 7 2/3 scoreless innings against Boston, but in his last game, also versus the Red Sox, he gave up six runs in 4 2/3 innings. LeBlanc has an ERA of 8.10 in the first inning but 0.00 in the second and third innings of his starts. The Mariners are 7-3 in his 10 starts, and in four career games versus Baltimore, he is 1-2 with a 4.50 ERA. But in two starts versus the Orioles, LeBlanc is 1-0 with a 2.13 ERA.

The Orioles (23-55) are 1-13 in their last 14 home games. They are 0-11 against AL West teams, going 0-3 against the Astros, Angels and Athletics, and 0-2 against Seattle.
