O's game blog: Trying to end a road trip on a high note

SEATTLE - With one negative stat erased - a 10-game losing streak - maybe the Orioles can put an end to a few others today. If they beat the Mariners at T-Mobile Park, they will have their first two-game wining streak since May 4-6. Since then they have had eight cracks at a two-game win streak coming up short each time.

They would also split this four-game series, ending a stretch of nine straight series road losses. The Orioles are 22-55 overall and 13-27 on the road. Saturday's 8-4 win snapped the losing skid and was their third win in the last 17 games and fifth in the past 23.

Right-hander Gabriel Ynoa (0-4, 5.65 ERA) pitches the finale of the series and the road trip today. On Tuesday at Oakland, Ynoa gave up six runs over 5 1/3 innings and took the loss as the A's crushed the O's 16-2. Ynoa has made five starts and is 0-3 with a 5.68 ERA in those games, allowing eight homers over 25 1/3 innings. In six road games (two as a starter) he s 0-2 with a 6.86 ERA.

Left-hander Yusei Kikuchi (3-5, 5.15 ERA) will make his 17th start for Seattle. On the season he's thrown 80 1/3 innings, allowing 95 hits and 17 home runs. He has walked 24, fanned 60 and has a 1.481 WHIP.

The Mariners signed him as a free agent on Jan. 1, 2019 after he pitched seven seasons in Japan for the Seibu Lions, going 69-45 with a 2.69 ERA. He signed to a three-year deal worth $43 million with an option for $13 million for 2022.

Over his past five starts, he is 0-4 with a 10.35 ERA, raising his season ERA up from 3.43. The Mariners are 7-9 when he gets the start.

Kikuchi throws his four-seam fastball 51 percent of the time, with an average velocity of 93.4 mph. He throws his slider 25 percent, at a velocity of 86.6, and his curveball 22 percent, at 75.6.

Seattle ranks second in the majors with 142 homers. They are 0-14 when they don't hit a home run. O's pitchers leads the majors in homers allowed, at 154.

The Mariners' Domingo Santana leads the American League with 58 RBIs. He has homered in three of his last four games, hitting four longballs. Over his past 18 games, Santana is batting .351 with three doubles, seven homers, eight walks, 16 runs and 18 RBIs.

Seattle led 1-0 after the first inning on Saturday. The Mariners held the lead after the opening inning for just the second time in the club's last 27 games. The O's led 2-0 after the first inning Thursday and 3-1 Friday, but lost both those games.

Baltimore's Pedro Severino went 1-for-4 with an RBI yesterday. He is batting .391 (9-for-23) during a six-game hitting streak. That is the second longest streak of his career, behind an eight-game hitting streak from April 28-May 15, 2018. For the year over 46 games, he is batting .288/.361/.500 with eight homers and 22 RBIs.
