O's game blog: Tyler Wilson gets the start in Game 2 against New York

The Orioles have allowed 21 runs the last three games. But they've scored 31 and have won all three to improve to 31-22 as they get set to host the Yankees tonight in the second game of a three-game series.

The Orioles have moved back into a first-place tie with Boston atop the American League East. The Orioles are 20-10 at home, 12-7 against AL East teams and 3-1 versus the Yankees.

New York (25-29) has lost four of five and seven of its last 10 games since a six-game winning streak. The Yankees are 3-5 on their current 10-game road trip. New York is 9-16 in AL East games.

The Orioles went 7-2 at home versus New York each of the past two years and are 16-4 at home against the Yankees since July 13, 2014.

Right-hander Tyler Wilson (2-4, 3.83 ERA) tonight makes his 11th appearance and eighth start of 2016. Wilson has recorded back-to-back quality starts, giving up six runs over 12 2/3 innings. He has four quality starts his past five outings. The Orioles are 3-4 in his starts.

In one start this year against New York, Wilson went six innings on May 4 in Baltimore, allowing four hits and three runs (two earned) with three walks and four strikeouts in a 96-pitch outing.

Right-hander Ivan Nova (3-3, 3.98) makes his 12th appearance and sixth start. Over 43 innings he has given up 45 hits and six homers with six walks, 27 strikeouts and a .268 average against. Lefty batters hit .232 and right-handed batters hit .293 off Nova.

Over his past two starts, Nova is 0-2 with a 5.68 ERA, giving up eight runs in 12 2/3 innings. In five road games, he is 1-2 with a 6.27 ERA. In 15 career games (14 starts) versus Baltimore, he is 6-4 with an ERA of 5.07.

Outfielder Hyun Soo Kim registered a career-high tying three hits for the fourth time last night. He has now hit safely in 14 of his 21 games this season, batting .391/.466/.500 (25-for-64) with seven multi-hit performances. Over his last three games, Kim is 7-for-14.

Catcher Matt Wieters has now hit safely in 11 of his last 12 games batting .367/.373/.592 (18-for-49) with five doubles, two home runs, five runs and 11 RBIs. Mark Trumbo singled in the bottom of the fourth inning for his 700th career hit Friday night. Trumbo has hit four homers his last nine games and has 11 over his past 29 contests.
