O's get fifth straight quality start, get blanked by Toronto 4-0

The Orioles got another quality start tonight and a decent outing from Ubaldo Jimenez, but they could not back him with any offense and lost 4-0 to Toronto in front of the season's fourth sellout of 44,031 at Camden Yards. The Orioles got shut out for the sixth time on the year and second time in the last four games. Toronto starter Drew Hutchison pitched well against the Orioles for the third time in three starts this year. He gave up six hits over seven innings to improve to 5-4 with an ERA of 3.62. In 19 innings against Baltimore, he has allowed 16 hits and two runs for an ERA of 0.95. Jimenez walked three of the first eight batters he faced tonight but settled down and went on to have a good outing. He pitched six innings and gave up three hits and two runs with five walks and two strikeouts. In the second, Jimenez walked Brett Lawrie with one out. Juan Francisco followed with a two-run homer to left to give the Blue Jays the 2-0 lead. It was his 11th of the year and came on an 0-1 fastball. This was the fifth straight quality start by O's starters - the best stretch of the year. In that time, they've worked 33 innings, allowing 22 hits and four runs for an ERA of 1.09. After his outing tonight, Jimenez has an ERA of 10.55 in five day game starts and an ERA of 2.63 in nine starts at night. Toronto used a Tommy Hunter walk and Jonathan Schoop error to plate two runs in the eighth and expand the lead to 4-0. The O's had allowed three runs total over the previous four games. The Orioles are now 4-4 on this homestand, 15-16 for the year at Camden Yards, 4-4 against Toronto and 34-32 for the season. In the third game of this series Saturday at 4:05 p.m., Bud Norris (5-5, 3.94 ERA) faces R.A. Dickey (6-4, 4.20 ERA).
