O's minor league homer leader suffers oblique injury

Aaron Baker, who leads all Orioles minor leaguers this season with 22 homers and 76 RBIs, suffered an oblique injury today during batting practice with Double-A Bowie and the injury could keep him out for the rest of the season. Sometimes, these types of injuries can take four to six weeks to heal and there are only about six weeks remaining in the minor league regular season. The 24-year-old Baker was acquired by the Orioles from the Pirates last July 30 in a deal for then-O's first baseman Derrick Lee. Baker had been with Single-A Frederick for most of this year, batting .266 with 22 homers and 72 RBIs along with an OPS of .898 in 89 games. He hit eight homers in 17 games in July with the Keys and was just recently moved to Bowie. Baker went 3-for-7 with four RBIs in two games with the Baysox and got hurt today while taking batting practice. If the injury heals quickly enough, Baker could head to Sarasota for rehab to try and get back before the 2012 season ends. He will be put on the Baysox disabled list on Monday. Meanwhile, Single-A Delmarva center fielder Glynn Davis left a game today after just one time at-bat after getting hit in the hand with a pitch. It doesn't appear that it will keep him out for more than two or three days. Over 87 Delmarva games, Davis is batting .261 with no homers, 23 RBIs, 49 runs and 28 steals.
