O's suffer most lopsided loss of year, 11-0 to Houston

The Houston Astros, who have the worst record in the majors, crushed the Orioles 11-0 tonight at Camden Yards as 25,265 looked on wondering what the heck was going on with the home team. The Orioles have been held to 10 hits in this series and were shutout tonight for the second time in three games. They have scored just 19 runs over the last eight games. Just hours after trading pitcher Bud Norris to the O's, Houston pounded his new teammate, Miguel Gonzalez, for nine runs over 3 2/3 innings. Gonzalez allowed a career high nine runs (four earned runs) along with nine hits to fall to 8-5 with an ERA of 3.88. Over his last two starts, Gonzalez has pitched 8 1/3 innings and has given up 17 hits and 15 runs (10 earned runs). In the previous eight starts - all quality starts - his ERA was 2.35. Playing against the O's tonight, LJ Hoes went 0-for-5 but his teammates did plenty of damage. Catcher Jason Castro went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a grand slam and four RBIs. Matt Dominguez was 4-for-5 with three runs and two RBIs. This was the O's worst loss of the year. Twice previously they had lost by eight runs. Making his first major league start, winning pitcher Brett Oberholtzer allowed just three singles over seven scoreless innings, throwing 87 pitches, 60 for strikes. The Orioles fall to 31-23 at home, 17-9 against the AL West and 59-49 overall with their sixth loss in the last eight games.
