MIAMI - Ryan Zimmerman wasted no time delivering for the Nationals in his first game back from the DL. After Bryce Harper walked to start the second, Zimmerman ripped a double down the left field line, giving the Nats runners at second and third.
With one out, Wilson Ramos lifted a fly ball just deep enough to right, allowing Harper to tag and sprint home for the game's first run.
Jayson Werth struck out in his first at-bat after also being activated from the DL earlier this afternoon.
Update: The Marlins tied it up in the fifth after back-to-back singles from J.T. Realmuto and Ichiro Suzuki led to an RBI sacrifice fly by Adeiny Hechavarria.
Dee Gordon, fresh off the DL as well, roped a triple off Nationals starter Jordan Zimmermann to lead off the sixth. Martin Prado followed with a single scoring Gordon to give the Marlins the lead.
A groundout from Realmuto plated Prado later in the inning.
Zimmermann allowed three runs on eight hits with two walks and two strikeouts over six innings. He threw 76 pitches.
After a scorching week, Ian Desmond is 0-for-3 with three strikeouts tonight.
The Nationals are 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position and have left six men on base.
Update II: The Marlins added another run on an RBI single from Christian Yelich off left-hander Sammy Solis in the seventh.
Update III: The Nats loaded the bases in the ninth, but Yunel Escobar hit into a game-ending double play.
The Marlins beat the Nationals 4-1.
