Offensive notes on Jones, Davis and more

The Orioles continue to flounder, but Adam Jones continues to flourish. His bat remains hot, and now he gets to hit at home for the next 10 games where he has been a very good hitter this year. Jones has hit safely in 11 of the last 12 games, batting .375 (18-for-48) in that stretch with four doubles, two homers and seven RBIs. He has seven multi-hit games over that dozen-game run, increasing his average from .283 to .294. In 54 home games in 2011, Jones is batting .300 with 15 homers, 43 RBIs and a .928 OPS. I can possibly see a MVO in his future. That is Most Valuable Oriole. Chris Davis has now played four games and is 3-for-17 for the Orioles with a homer and three RBIs. Some have remarked that Davis can struggle against left-handed pitchers (.227 career average), but in this small sample size of four games, he is 3-for-8 against lefties and 0-for-9 with four strikeouts against right-handed pitching. Davis is 2-for-2 with runners in scoring position as an Oriole. Some may not have noticed, but Robert Andino and Vlad Guerrero have been hitting better lately. Andino is 12-for-33 (.364) over his past 11 games with three doubles. He had a pair of doubles in a 2-for-3 game last night. Vladdy now has an eight-game batting streak and is hitting .394 (13-for-33) during the stretch with three doubles, two homers and five RBIs. Nick Markakis and Matt Wieters ended small RBI droughts last night at Kansas City. Markakis had gone nine games without an RBI until his run-scoring single in the third. Wieters was without an RBI for 10 games and then singled one home in the fourth. He also picked up two hits for his first multi-hit game since July 19.
