Ohlendorf leaves game with trainer (Braves win 3-2)

NATIONALS QUICK WRAP Score: Braves 3, Nationals 2 Recap: Jordan Zimmermann was sharp in his second start of spring, throwing three scoreless innings, striking out four. The Nats rallied to tie the game in the top of the ninth on Michael A. Taylor's two-out, two-strike RBI single, but Braeden Schlehuber dropped in an RBI single in the bottom half of the inning to give the Braves a 3-2 win. Need to know: Ross Ohlendorf left the game after facing just four batters in the sixth (none of whom he retired) and walked off with a trainer. Ohlendorf has been set back by tightness in his side and an issue with a finger on his throwing hand so far this spring, and any further setbacks could impact his bid to make the Nats' opening day roster. On deck: Friday, home vs. Houston, 1:05 p.m. LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - Ross Ohlendorf's first spring appearance lasted just four batters. He didn't retire any of them, and then walked off the field with a trainer by his side. Ohlendorf has missed time this spring with tightness in his side and an issue with one of the fingers on his throwing hand, which split open. The 31-year-old right-hander, who is competing for a spot on the Nationals' 25-man roster this spring, came out to start the sixth inning, but didn't stay on the mound long. He allowed a leadoff single to Edward Salcedo, then walked Dan Uggla. A Jeff Kobernus throwing error allowed Andrelton Simmons to reach base, and then Todd Cunningham singled to right, scoring the game's first run. Ohlendorf then walked off the field with trainer Lee Kuntz, and entered the clubhouse with Kuntz and bench coach Randy Knorr alongside. Ohlendorf posted a 3.28 ERA in 16 appearances with the Nats last season after being promoted from Triple-A Syracuse. He made seven starts with the Nats and also worked out of the bullpen as a long reliever. The Nats re-signed Ohlendorf to a one-year, $1.25 million big league contract this offseason, and manager Matt Williams said before today's game that the right-hander was still in the mix for the No. 5 spot in the Nats rotation, despite the time he had missed due to injury. Now, it seems Ohlendorf will be slowed by an apparent injury again. It's 2-0 Braves as we go to the seventh. Both Atlanta runs were charged to Ohlendorf.
