On busy Sunday, O's picked up a big win and added lefty to rotation

When the Orioles came to bat in the 12th inning on Sunday at Toronto, they had scored just three runs since the start of Saturday's game at Rogers Centre. They had scored just 12 runs during their five-game losing streak.

But they scored four runs in that inning - on Jonathan Schoop's single and Adam Jones' three-run homer - as they picked up a huge win. After Saturday's deflating blowout loss and poor starts by Kevin Gausman and Yovani Gallardo in Toronto, the O's pitching was outstanding on Sunday.

Chris Tillman gave up two runs over 5 2/3 and then five pitchers out of the bullpen combined to allow just one hit over 6 1/3 scoreless innings. Blue Jays batters went just 1-for-19 against the O's 'pen and went 0-for-13 to end the game.

The Orioles bullpen has recorded 26 wins this year to lead the majors. Jones' homer was his 20th and he has recorded six consecutive seasons with 20 or more. Manager Buck Showalter picked up his 517th win with the Orioles to tie Paul Richards for second on the club's all-time managerial wins list.

The Orioles picked up one of their biggest wins of the year and they left Rogers Centre in the same spot they were to start that series: first place.

Miley is an Oriole: There are a few things to like about the Orioles' acquisition of left-hander Wade Miley from Seattle for Triple-A pitcher Ariel Miranda on Sunday night.

For one, Miley is not a rental and is under team control through 2017 with a team option for 2018. He's pitching well right now with an ERA of 2.79 his past three starts. He's left-handed and the Orioles have not had a lefty in their rotation all year. And he averaged 198 innings from 2012-2015.

Miley, however, had modest numbers last year for Boston, going 11-11 with an ERA of 4.46. And his numbers this year are modest at best with a 7-8 record and 4.98 ERA for Seattle.

But if he pitches well, he can stay in the rotation beyond this year. And in Miranda, the Orioles did not give up Chance Sisco, Trey Mancini, Chris Lee, Ryan Mountcastle or any of their top prospects.

The 27-year-old Miranda, who pitched in Cuba for seven seasons, was ranked as the club's No. 23 prospect by Baseball America at the end of the 2015 season.

The O's rotation now has a lefty, one that gave up two runs over six innings two starts ago against Toronto. And one that gave up just one run and one hit in seven innings against the Cubs in his most recent start on Saturday afternoon. He had a no-hitter through six innings.

It's another trade with Seattle for the Orioles. Their trade of Erik Bedard to Seattle has been the deal that keeps giving and giving, and they also added Mark Trumbo from Seattle for Steve Clevenger. Will they score big again on a deal with the Mariners?
