"Orioles Classics" #TBT: Beckham quickly impresses in first week with Orioles

Tim Beckham became a welcome addition to the Orioles lineup when he joined the team at the 2017 trade deadline and immediately impressed fans in his first week with the club. He started things off with a 12-game hitting streak from Aug. 1-12, which led to him earning his first American League Player of the Week honor (for July 31-Aug. 6). Beckham became the third player since 1954 to have a hitting streak of at least 12 games to begin their O's career.

In those first 12 games with Baltimore, he hit .531 (26-for-49) with seven doubles, two triples, nine RBIs and three home runs (including the 2,500th home run by an Oriole in Camden Yards history on Aug. 3 and the 10,000th home run in Orioles history on Aug. 5). Also, his 11 hits in his first four games with Baltimore set a franchise record. His August wasn't too shabby, either. He finished the month with a .394/.417/.646 slash line with 10 doubles, three triples, six home runs and 19 RBIs. Needless to say, "Swaggy T's" hot start with his new club instantly made him a fan favorite.

Thursday, Jan. 18, 12:30 a.m. - After winning a 13-inning affair against the A's the previous night, the O's celebrated another walk-off win on Aug. 15, 2015 in front of a sellout crowd at Camden Yards. In their sixth walk-off victory of the season, Chris Davis crushed his 86th and 87th career home runs at Oriole Park, surpassing Cal Ripken Jr. for fifth place on Camden Yards' all-time home run list.

Thursday, Jan. 18, 1 p.m. - Another story of an unlikely hero carrying the O's to victory was Chris Dickerson on May 31, 2013 against the Tigers. Down 5-2 with two outs in the ninth inning, Dickerson hit a three-run homer in front of a sellout crowd at Camden Yards for a 7-5 walk-off win.

Friday, Jan. 19, 9 a.m. - Davis was having a rough day at the plate against the Red Sox on May 6, 2012 - he struck out five times and grounded into a double play as the designated hitter. But after five-plus hours, 15 innings and four relievers, manager Buck Showalter turned to Davis to save the day (and hopefully end the afternoon-turned-evening affair).

Davis tossed two shutout innings before Adam Jones blasted a three-run shot in the top of the 17th to give the O's a 9-6 victory, earning their first-three game sweep at Fenway Park in 18 years. Davis became the first player to go 0-for-8 at the plate and earn a win since Rube Waddell in the Philadelphia A's 20-inning game against Cy Young and the Boston Americans on July 4, 1905.

Sunday, Jan. 21, 4:30 p.m. - Trey Mancini had an impressive rookie season, quickly making a name for himself as a jack-of-all-trades kind of player who became a huge asset for the O's. Like on June 7, when the O's needed a rally against the Pirates and Mancini delivered twice. First, he tied it up with a two-run shot in the ninth for his first pinch-hit home run. Then, two innings later, Mancini's three-run homer ended the game at 9-6 (his first walk-off hit). Click here for a full recap of Mancini's heroics by MASNsports.com's Roch Kubatko.

Tuesday, Jan. 23, 9 a.m. - On Aug. 14, 2015 at Camden Yards, the O's rallied from a 4-0 deficit to take a 6-4 lead in the ninth inning against the A's. Unfortunately, the A's rallied to tie it up with two outs in the ninth, but this only set the stage for Manny Machado to cap another O's rally with a two-run homer to left in the 13th inning for an 8-6 victory. Although Manny's heroics stole the show, the O's also got some offensive help from Jones and Davis homers.

Wednesday, Jan. 24, 11 a.m. - Baltimore's 10-6 come-from-behind victory over the Yankees on Sept. 6, 2012 tied them atop the AL East, and the Birds were on their way to their first playoff berth since 1977. But that wasn't the only storyline of the evening. Since it was also the 17th anniversary of the day that Ripken broke Lou Gherig's record for most consecutive games played, the Orioles held a special pregame ceremony celebrating the Hall of Famer by unveiling a bronze statue.
