Orioles' instructional league roster includes Bundy, Machado

The Orioles' last two first-round draft picks, pitcher Dylan Bundy and shortstop Manny Machado, head the list of young players on the O's instructional league roster. The instructional league workouts in Sarasota, Fla., begin Sept.15 and run through Oct. 8. Several O's minor league coaches and instructors will be on hand and Mike Bordick will oversee the workouts and serve as manager when the Orioles' team plays games. The players get a lot of individual drill work and instruction during the three weeks in Florida and also play four games a week starting Sept. 20. The instructional league roster consists of 32 players including 14 pitchers, four catchers, eight infielders, three outfielders and three players listed on rehab. The roster includes 15 of the 22 draft picks from the class of 2011. Outfielder Xavier Avery is not listed on the roster, but is expected to spend some time there before heading to the Arizona Fall League. The Orioles recently hired a speed training specialist, Eric Cormell, to work with base stealers like Avery and with some of their minor league clubs. Here is the roster with the round listed for the 2011 draft picks- Pitchers: Ryan Berry Mark Blackmar (round 16) Parker Bridwell Dylan Bundy (round 1) Matt Bywater Zach Davies (round 26) Zach Fowler (round 34) Devin Jones (round 9) Jason McCracken (round 42) Bennett Parry (round 40) David Richardson Matt Taylor (round 5) Eric Wooten (round 15) Mike Wright (round 3) Catchers: Adam Davis (round 11) Gabriel Lino Michael Ohlman Wynston Sawyer Infielders: Nicky Delmonico (round 6) Jason Esposito (round 2) Mychal Givens LJ Hoes Dudley Leonora Manny Machado Connor Narron Jonathan Schoop Outfielders: Glynn Davis John Ruettiger (round 8) Jalen Simmons (round 24) Players listed on rehab are pitchers Matt Hobgood and Casey Lambert, and infielder Greg Miclat. Bundy, Esposito and Delmonico were all signed by the O's in the final hours leading up to the Aug. 15 signing deadline. All were signed to 2012 contracts, so they have not been playing with any affiliates but all have spent the last couple of weeks working out in Sarasota in advance of the start of the instructional league. Players go to instructional league for a variety of reasons, including to get more specialized instruction and to get a chance to be seen at different positions. Some injured players continue their rehab programs and get in some work they missed during the season.
