The Orioles today launched the "Player's Favorite Things" basket auction to benefit Living Classrooms. Fans have the opportunity to bid on collections of items from their favorite Orioles players including Shawn Armstrong, Paul Fry, Travis Lakins Sr., Rio Ruiz, Chance Sisco, Pat Valaika and manager Brandon Hyde.
Fans can bid at Orioles.com/auction from now until Monday, September 7, at 10:00 p.m. ET. Photos and details on each basket are also available at Orioles.com/BirdlandInsider.
Proceeds from the auction will benefit Baltimore and Washington, D.C. nonprofit organization, Living Classrooms. Founded in Baltimore in 1985, Living Classrooms disrupts the cycle of poverty and helps the community become safer, stronger, and healthier by meeting individuals where they are, and building skills for life. Living Classrooms inspires children, youth, and adults to achieve their potential through hands-on education, workforce development, health and wellness, and violence prevention programming.
Living Classrooms will be featured as the virtual community booth on Tuesday, September 1, and Wednesday, September 2, as the Orioles face the New York Mets. On Friday, September 4, the Orioles will also recognize Melody Baron, a longtime supporter, advocate, and volunteer for the Living Classrooms Foundation. Baron was recognized as a Rising Star with the foundation in 2017 and currently serves as co-chair of the Associate Leadership Council. Baron is also a co-host of LinkedIn Local Baltimore which raised over $19,000 for Living Classrooms last year. Throughout the pandemic, she has gone above and beyond securing donations of essential items and providing food for Living Classroom families. In recognition of Baron's work, the Orioles Charitable Foundation will donate $2,500 to Living Classrooms.
