O's place Mateo on IL and recall Norby among several roster moves

MIAMI - The Orioles have recalled infielder Connor Norby for the series finale today at Miami and infielder Jorge Mateo goes to the 10-day injured list with a left elbow subluxation. Norby is in the O's lineup today and batting eighth. The move is retroactive to yesterday.

The club also recalled pitcher Bryan Baker and optioned right-hander Chayce McDermott, who started yesterday,  to Triple-A.

A road trip that began with two wins amid promise last Friday in Texas ends this afternoon in Miami with the Orioles looking to reverse a slide.

A slide that has seen them losing three games in a row scoring just eight runs. They have also lost eight of 11 and 10 of their past 15. They are only 11-16 since June 21. 

A loss today and the Orioles would have a four-game losing streak and a pair of five-game losing streaks since June 21.

Today, right-hander Corbin Burnes (10-4, 2.38 ERA) will try to be a stopper. He might be the exact right guy for the job. He ranks tied for second in the AL in ERA with Kansas City's Seth Lugo, behind only Tarik Skubal of Detroit at 2.34.

He ranks fourth in the AL in innings (124 2/3), tied for second in quality starts (16), seventh in opponent OPS (.603), eighth in batting average against (.217) and ninth in WHIP (1.043).

Burnes has delivered 14 quality starts in his past 15 games, going 7-4 with a 2.27 ERA in that span, allowing a .221 average and .609 OPS.

Righty Roddery Muñoz (1-5, 5.14 ERA) starts for the home team. He allowed one run over five innings in his last start against the Mets. But he has an ERA of 5.64 and .860 OPS allowed over his past six starts.

Over 80 games this season with Triple-A Norfolk, Norby is batting .297/.389/.519/.908 with 21 doubles a triple, 16 homers and 57 RBIs. In four games this season with the Orioles, he went 3-for-14 in early June with a homer and two RBIs.
