Orioles lineup in Boston includes Mayo and Holliday, quick update on Westburg

BOSTON – Coby Mayo is starting at third base tonight at Fenway Park and Jackson Holliday returns to the lineup at second base.

Cedric Mullins is batting second again.

James McCann is catching, with Adley Rutschman serving as designated hitter.

Albert Suárez needs to bounce back from his last start, when he allowed six runs and eight hits in 4 1/3 innings against the White Sox. He surrendered three home runs to tie his career high, and Chicago snapped a 12-game losing streak.

Suárez shut out the Red Sox over six innings on Aug. 18.

The Orioles went 2-for-11 with runners in scoring position and stranded 11 last night, the continuation of a problem that they must solve if they want to win the division or host a Wild Card round. They trail the Yankees by 1 ½ games.

Rutschman and Ryan O’Hearn took early batting practice this afternoon with co-hitting coach Ryan Fuller standing behind the cage. Rutschman had his second two-hit game of the month last night and third since Aug. 24.

Jordan Westburg played catch in the outfield and fielded ground balls at second and third base. He made throws across the diamond.

Westburg said he should be ready to starting hitting “soon.”

Boston right-hander Kutter Crawford is 8-13 with a 4.08 ERA and 1.075 WHIP in 29 starts. His 29 home runs allowed lead the majors.

Crawford has posted back-to-back quality starts to give him 12 this season. He faced the Orioles on April 10 at Fenway Park and tossed five scoreless innings with two hits and six strikeouts, and on May 29 in Baltimore and allowed five runs in six innings. They met again Aug. 18 in Baltimore and he allowed three runs and two hits in 5 1/3.

Rutschman is 3-for-10 with two home runs against Crawford. Anthony Santander is 4-for-11 with a homer.

Santander became the eighth Oriole last night to hit 40 home runs in a season. Chris Davis did it twice.
