Orioles lineup vs. Angels

Tyler Nevin’s father is in town tonight with the Angels arriving in Baltimore for a four-game series.

Phil Nevin is the interim manager serving two more games of his suspension related to the June 26 brawl between the Angels and Mariners. He returns to the dugout on Saturday.

Tyler is on the bench tonight, but Ryan Mountcastle has worked past a sinus infection and is starting at first base.

Austin Hays is playing left field Jonathan Araúz gets the start at third base.

Adley Rutschman is catching and batting sixth.

Trey Mancini has a five-game hitting streak, going 6-for-20 with a double and home run. He’s the designated hitter tonight.

Jordan Lyles has registered a 4.70 ERA and 1.413 WHIP in 16 starts. He held the Twins to one run in 6 1/3 innings in his last outing.

Lyles is making his 10th career appearance and ninth start against the Angels, and trying to improve on a 7.17 ERA and 1.673 WHIP accumulated over 37 2/3 innings.

The Orioles won two of three games in Anaheim in April, all decided by two runs or fewer.

The Angels are starting rookie Chase Silseth, an 11^th-round draft pick in 2021 out of the University of Arizona. He’s registered a 5.23 ERA and 1.403 WHIP in five games, with 12 runs and 22 hits in 20 2/3 innings.

Silseth blanked the Athletics on one hit over six innings in his debut on May 13. He hasn’t completed five innings in his next four starts.

Left-handed hitters are 11-for-32 (.344) with four home runs.

The Angels are 38-45 and in fourth place in the American League West. They ended a four-game losing streak on Wednesday, and dropped 14 in a row from May 25-June 8.

Joe Maddon was fired as manager on June 7.

Tyler Wells, Dean Kremer and Austin Voth start for the Orioles in the next three games of the series. The Angels are starting Michael Lorenzen and left-handers Patrick Sandoval and José Suarez.

Triple-A Norfolk infielder Gunnar Henderson, the No. 5 prospect in baseball, per MLBPipeline.com’s latest top 100, is representing the Orioles in the All-Star Futures Game on July 16 in Los Angeles.

Henderson, 21, was a second-round pick in the 2019 draft out of John T. Morgan Academy in Alabama. He followed Rutschman among the Orioles’ selections.
