Orioles place Dylan Bundy on bereavement list

BOSTON - The Orioles made a roster move this afternoon that only partially had been anticipated.

Mike Wright has been recalled from Triple-A Norfolk to replace Dylan Bundy, who's going on the bereavement list.

Wright was scratched from his start yesterday in Game 2 of a doubleheader at Norfolk. He figured to be with the team in Boston, though the reasoning hadn't come to light.

Bundy started on Wednesday against the Athletics and wasn't scheduled to appear in the weekend series at Fenway Park. He must remain on the list for a minimum of three days.

Though the Orioles haven't confirmed their rotation beyond Saturday afternoon, Bundy is lined up to face the Mariners next week at Camden Yards. The series begins on Monday.

Wright-Delivers-Black-Sidebar.jpgWright has registered a 5.56 ERA and 1.059 WHIP in six relief appearances with the Orioles over 11 1/3 innings, walking one batter and striking out 14. His last outing came on June 14 against the White Sox in Chicago, when he threw two scoreless innings.

The Orioles placed Wright on the disabled list two days later with right shoulder bursitis, activated him on July 22 and optioned him.

Wright is 3-6 with a 4.03 ERA in 15 starts with Norfolk. He allowed five earned runs last Friday in 6 2/3 innings against Toledo.

Limited by a six-man bullpen, the Orioles can use Wright in relief to get back to a normal count. He also provides a fresh arm after Miguel Castro worked 3 2/3 innings Wednesday.

This is the second time in less than a week that the Orioles have needed to use the bereavement list. Castro returned to the team Wednesday after attending the funeral of a close family member.
