The Orioles today announced that they have selected the contract of infielder Ryan Adams from Triple-A Norfolk and recalled outfielder Nolan Reimold from the Tides. In addition, left-handed pitcher Troy Patton has been designated for assignment off the 25-man roster.
Adams batted .303/.373/.434 in 39 games for the Tides and will make his major league debut with the Orioles. He batted .526/.550/.947 with two doubles, two home runs and eight RBIs in 17 spring training games as a non-roster invitee with the club. Selected in the second-round of the 2006 First Year Player Draft by Baltimore, Adams was a 2010 Eastern League All-Star, setting a single-season record for the Double-A Bowie Baysox with 43 doubles. He was named the O's No. 8 prospect by Baseball America after the 2010 season.
Reimold batted .237/.329/.410 with eight multi-hit efforts in 39 games for Norfolk this season. He batted .315/.448/.537 with three home runs and 10 RBIs in 24 spring training games. Reimold has batted .262/.345/.432 with 18 home runs and 59 RBI in 143 games over two seasons with the Orioles. He was the club's second-round selection in the 2005 First Year Player Draft.
Patton appeared in relief in last night's game against the New York Yankees, allowing two earned runs in 2.1 innings.
Adams will wear uniform No. 6 and Reimold will wear No. 14.
