Let's check in with a few Orioles stats and notes after a disappointing end to the weekend. It began with the Orioles blanking Tampa Bay 7-0 Friday, but they lost a late lead and the game Saturday night and fell behind early in losing Sunday.
* Vlad Guerrero had back-to-back games on May 15 and 16 with two doubles each. But in the 22 games since then, Guerrero has just three total extra-base hits. His homer yesterday was his sixth of the year and first since May 22 versus Washington. Guerrero's slugging percentage was .429 and his OPS .755 May 16, but those numbers are now .396 and .705.
* Even in losing the last two days, the Orioles are 10-4 over their last 14 home games and 13-7 over the last 20. They are 20-18 at home on the season.
* Sunday's loss ended a run of wins in 10 straight Brian Matusz starts for the Orioles dating to a 7-3 loss Aug. 14 at Tampa Bay. The Orioles are now 23-20 in Matusz's 43 career starts.
* Even though they have scored a run or more in the first inning of five of their last seven games, the opening inning has been the worst this year for the Orioles. They have been outscored 32-16 in the first inning on the season. They hold a minus-16 run differential then, followed by the second inning, their next worst on the year. They have been outscored 41-28 in that frame.
* J.J. Hardy is 9-for-23 (.391) during a six-game hitting streak. He is 16-for-40 (.400) and has hit safely in 10 of 11 games with four homers and seven RBIs. Hardy has batted leadoff four times now and is 6-for-16 (.375) with two homers when batting in that spot in the order.
* The Orioles have now lost four straight series against American League East opponents. They are 9-16 on the year within the division. They began the season 5-4 against the East, but are 4-12 in their last 16 games. They are 6-6 against Tampa, 2-2 versus Boston, 1-2 against Toronto and 0-6 versus New York. They have a better record on the road than at home against the AL East, going 4-12 at home and 5-4 away from Baltimore.
* The Orioles' three homers on Sunday tied a season high. They have hit three homers in a game three times on the season and twice in the past five games. They also hit three on Tuesday versus Oakland. Over those past five games, the Orioles have homered 11 times. The homers have accounted for 16 of the 25 runs the team has scored in that span.
