Post-game Notes: O's top A's

A rare type of win - Coming into tonight the Orioles had lost 19 straight games when scoring three runs or less. That streak ends with a 3-2 win over Oakland. Their last win in such a game was a 2-1 victory on June 21st at Philadelphia. The Orioles ended a nine-game losing streak vs. Oakland and beat the A's for the first time in over two years. Before tonight, their last win vs. Oakland was on July 22, 2007. The nine-game losing streak tied the Dodgers current nine-game win streak vs. Cincinnati as the longest active win streaks in the Majors. The longest O's losing skid ever was 17 games to Cleveland from May 21 - September 6, 1954. Since 1999, the Orioles are 28-64 overall vs. Oakland and 14-32 at home. A streak ends - The O's ended a six-game losing streak in one-run decisions. Their last win by one run was by a 4-3 score in 12 innings over Toronto on July 11th. The O's are now 12-15 in one-run games. Winning pitcher David Hernandez allowed two runs and six hits over 6 2/3 innings. In two outings this year vs. Oakland he has allowed just two runs over 9 1/3 frames. Tonight he fanned a season-high six batters after recording seven total strikeouts over his last three starts. B-Rob steals two - Brian Roberts is now 12 for 12 on the year in steal attempts of third base. The 12 steals of third base leads the Majors. He is tied for the ML lead with Juan Pierre of the Dodgers with 71 steals of third (in 77 tries) since the start of 2003. Roberts was 3 for 4 in the game with an RBI and two steals. It's his 37th multi-hit game and he picked up his AL-leading 39th double. Coming into tonight, Roberts was 3 for 19 over his last five games. Nick Markakis singled in the first tonight and was 2 for 4. He has now reached base in 32 consecutive games, the longest current streak in the Majors. He has reached base safely in 98 of 112 starts on the year. Markakis is 7 for 21 during a five-game batting streak. He is batting .330 with nine doubles since the All-Star break. Oakland lost for just the third time in nine games. The A's are 3-2 on a six-game road trip, 6-5 in August and 24-35 in road games. The O's bullpen pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings.
