Post-game Notes: Yanks hit five out in win over O's

Bronx Bombers - There were seven homers hit in the game - five by New York. The Yankees five homers tied their season high. They last did it August 23rd at Boston. This is their fourth, five-homer game of the year. New York, which has hit at least one homer in 105 of their 132 games, leads the Majors with 207 homers. They are on pace for a franchise-record 250. The back-to-back homers by Nick Swisher and Eric Hinske in the 7th gave NY a 9-6 lead. It's the 14th time on the year NY has hit back-to-back homers. Jorge Posada homered twice in the game with 3 RBI. He hit numbers 18 and 19. It's his 16th career multi-homer game and the 9th time this year the O's have allowed a multi-homer night. O's pitching has given up 27 homers over the last 17 games and 52 in the last 35 games. Luke Scott hit a three-run homer in the 5th that, at the time, gave the O's a 6-5 lead. It was his 21st of the year and landed onto Eutaw Street. It was the 52nd homer in OPACY history onto Eutaw Street and the 22nd by an Oriole. Scott has hit four of the O's last five Eutaw Street homers. Pie delivers again - Felix Pie hit a solo homer in the first and went 1 for 5 tonight. It was his 4th homer over his last five games and his 5th in his last eight contests. In his last 17 games, Pie is batting .365-6-13. Melvin Mora went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBI. Over his last seven games, he is 10 for 23 with 4 RBI. Nolan Reimold was 0 for 10 over his previous three games, but went 3 for 4 and scored twice. Rough night for the staff - The O's pitching staff set a season high with 12 strikeouts and tied season highs with nine walks and five homers allowed. The O's fall to a season-low 25 games under .500 and have lost nine in a row vs. New York since their last win in the season series on May 9th. Adam Jones left the game in the sixth inning with a sprained left ankle. X-rays were negative. The O's fall to 32-35 at home, 16-33 vs. AL East opponents and 14-31 since the All-Star break. On the Farm - Bowie beat Binghamton 6-1 and, coupled with Reading's loss, moved two games back of Reading for an Eastern League playoff berth. Winning pitcher Steve Johnson gave up just two hits and one run over six innings. He is now 2-2, 3.16. In his first Baysox game, Brandon Waring went 2-3 with a homer and 5 RBI. O's 2009 first-round draft pick Matt Hobgood picked up his first professional win Tuesday for Bluefield vs. Burlington. He gave up just one run over five innings, improving to 1-2, 4.72 on the season.
