Pregame injury/illness notes and lineup changes (O's win 5-3)

JUPITER, Fla. - The Orioles changed their original lineup today ahead of this game with the Miami Marlins at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. Catcher Austin Wynns and shortstop José Iglesias were scratched.

Wynns took a foul ball in the groin area the other day, so the Orioles left him back in Sarasota.

"He (Iglesias) has a little cramp in his upper quad, we just pulled him out precautionary and hopefully he'll be in there tomorrow," manager Brandon Hyde said in the visitors dugout. "Wynns got checked out and it checked out fine. But that's a tough area, so we'll give him a couple days."

Right-handed rotation candidate Kohl Stewart may make his spring training debut on Sunday. Hyde said Trey Mancini, who has been ill, was feeling a little better today but remains day-to-day. Lefty Tommy Milone did not make a simulated game start yesterday in Sarasota, but may try to do that today.

"The neck was still a little bit tight, so we pushed him back. We'll see how he is today," Hyde said of Milone, who threw two scoreless innings in his only spring outing so far.

Hyde admitted today that Stewart has missed enough time that being ready for the regular season could be an issue.

"Going to be difficult," he said. "Going to be tough to build him up to make a full start (by the end of camp). We'll see."

It won't be long before the Orioles play Anthony Santander in the field. He has been limited to DH duties so far after ending last season with right labrum inflammation.

"I'm not really in a huge rush to get him out there," Hyde said. "Think if we can get him out there the last couple of weeks in camp, we're in good shape. He's doing all the defensive drills during the day and is with the outfielders all day long. But we are just limiting his throwing. But he feels good and threw to bases a couple of days ago."

Hyde said today he has started to plan out already which pitchers he would start in the season's first few games. Spoiler alert, but John Means and Alex Cobb in some order will probably be the first two.

Hyde said pitching staff decisions will begin to come into focus more after the club's off-day on Monday. There will be less than two weeks of camp beginning next Tuesday.

"Our starters will start to dwindle a little bit and it's a lot easier when your numbers get lower," he said. "Now the innings are starting to get built up with guys we see three and possibly four innings next time. You start getting better looks. Some guys will start playing back-to-back."

The Orioles (6-5-1) are 5-1-1 over their last seven games heading into today's game, which can be heard on Orioles.com and MLB At-Bat beginning at 1 p.m. Wade LeBlanc gets the start. Also scheduled to pitch are Shawn Armstrong, Richard Bleier, David Hess, Eric Hanhold, Hunter Cervenka and Branden Kline.

Update: Pat Valaika hit a two-run homer off Caleb Smith to put the Orioles on top in the second inning.

Update II: Smith walked Chance Sisco and Austin Hays to start the third. Both then scored on Francisco Cervelli's throwing error. The Orioles lead the Marlins 4-0.

Update III: Monte Harrison doubled off LeBlanc to lead off the home third, and later scored on Brian Anderson's sacrifice fly. Orioles are up 4-1.

Update IV: David Hess pitched a 1-2-3 fourth inning but gave up three hits in the fifth, including Jonathan Villar's two-run homer. The Orioles now lead 4-3.

Update V: The Orioles padded their lead on Mason McCoy's sac fly in the ninth inning. Branden Kline will pitch the bottom half with the O's up 5-3.
