Quick Gausman update

Kevin Gauman's first start at the Triple-A level didn't produce the desired results. Gausman allowed seven runs and 10 hits in six innings for the Norfolk Tides in Game 1 of a doubleheader, with one walk, four strikeouts and one wild pitch. He served up a three-run homer to Indianapolis left fielder Andrew Lambo in the sixth inning. Jon Rauch replaced Gausman in the seventh and gave up a solo homer in an 8-1 loss. Rauch apparently has decided not to opt out of his contract. Gausman was 2-4 with a 3.11 ERA in eight starts at Double-A Bowie, with five walks and 49 strikeouts in 46 1/3 innings. He was 0-3 with a 7.66 ERA in five starts with the Orioles, with six walks and 20 strikeouts in 24 2/3 innings. Gausman was optioned to Norfolk after a June 13 start, when he allowed two runs in 5 1/3 innings against the Boston Red Sox, because the Orioles needed an extra reliever. Manager Buck Showalter made no promises that he would return quickly, saying that Gausman needed to earn another promotion. The rotation now includes left-hander Zach Britton, who is a candidate to start Sunday in Toronto. Freddy Garcia also is being considered, according to Showalter. Miguel Gonzalez will start Saturday after coming off paternity leave. RIP James Gandolfini. Died of a heart attack today in Italy at age 51. Not how I imagined Tony Soprano leaving this world.
