Quick Machado update

Orioles third baseman Manny Machado provided an update today on his comeback from his second knee surgery. During the club's minicamp in mid-January in Sarasota, Machado said he felt he would be full-go by spring training and he still feels that way.

Machado has been taking part in full baseball activities for several weeks now, after surgery on Aug. 27 to repair a partial tear of a ligament in his right knee. He underwent a similar procedure on his left knee in 2013.

"I have a lot of time to get ready. That is the key: having a regular offseason. Was doing my rehab in Sarasota and then went to Miami to do my regular weightlifting and get ready for the season. Been exciting. Looking forward to spring training."

Machado said it will be important to have a normal and full spring training this season after he didn't play at all last year in camp.

"It will be awesome," he said of the prospect of having a normal spring. "I'm dying to get back on the field. Spring training is key for a lot of players to get your at-bats and your reps. I think some take it for granted, but it's a very big key for success for the year."

Machado said it was hard to be watching and not playing last October in the postseason.

"It was awful to have to watch. But you know what? We're going to be back there this year and be on top. We came up short last year and we are trying to get back to where we need to be," he said.

For now, Machado is very pleased with his rehab, which has also included moving laterally when taking ground balls, something he had not been doing at the minicamp.

"I'm pretty much full-go. Been through everything and doing it all," he said.
