Ramos keeps raking (Ohlendorf does his job, Nats increase lead)

The list of Nationals players currently riding hot streaks - and it's a lengthy list - can be expanded to include Wilson Ramos. Ramos smoked a solo homer to left leading off the bottom of the second inning tonight, giving the Nats a 2-1 lead over the Phillies and giving Ramos four homers in his last six games. The Nationals catcher got a 1-0 cutter from Kyle Kendrick and didn't miss it, crushing the pitch into the Phillies bullpen. Ramos now has 14 homers on the season in just 240 at-bats. That's a home run for every 17.1 at-bats, which averaged over a typical 550 at-bat season would give Ramos 32 longballs. This is Ramos' 21st straight game starting behind the plate, and he's still going strong. Ross Ohlendorf got off to a shaky start for the Nats in the first inning, allowing three of the first four Phillies hitters he faced to reach base, but he responded well to get out of the first having allowed just a single run. The Nats then evened the score in the bottom of the first on Ian Desmond's run-scoring, two-out RBI single, which brought in Ryan Zimmerman. Ramos now has put the Nats on top on a windy, cool night in D.C. Update: Ramos isn't the only one hitting homers with a ridiculous frequency. Ryan Zimmerman is, as well. Zimmerman lined an 0-2 Kendrick sinker out to left-center for a solo shot leading off the third, making it a 3-1 Nats lead. This now gives Zimmerman nine homers in his last 11 games. In those 11 games, he has 13 hits, nine of which have left the yard. He had 15 homers through his first 122 games of the season. Now he's suddenly up to 24 on the year, giving him the team lead. And at this pace, with 15 games remaining after tonight, Zimmerman still has plenty of time to do even more damage. Update II: The Nats got about all they could've asked for out of Ohlendorf tonight, as the right-hander - making a spot start in place of the injured Stephen Strasburg - allowed just one run over five innings. Ohlendorf labored a bit to get through the fifth inning as his pitch count rose into the 80s, but he worked out of a jam and leaves after five. His season ERA drops to 3.15 and if the score holds, the Nats will be 6-0 in games started by Ohlendorf this season. They'll take a 6-1 lead to the sixth after a 25-minute bottom of fifth in which the Phillies used three pitchers and allowed three runs. Desmond added another RBI on another infield single, and two more runs came in on Ramos' infield single off the foot of Phillies righty Luis Garcia. The ball bounced off Garcia's foot and went flying a good 15-20 feet straight up in the air, allowing Jayson Werth to score from third and Bryce Harper to score all the way from second. Craig Stammen now enters for the Nats in the sixth.
