Rendon and Ramos go back-to-back (so do Zimmerman and Werth)

PHILADELPHIA - Anthony Rendon broke open a scoreless tie four pitches into the fifth inning. Wilson Ramos didn't waste much time copying Rendon and giving the Nationals a 2-0 lead. After Gio Gonzalez and Cliff Lee had each started tonight's game with four scoreless innings, Rendon took an 0-2 Lee fastball out to left for his fourth homer of the season. That was the first home run Lee has allowed all season on an 0-2 pitch. The ball left the yard so quickly it looked like it had been shot out of a cannon. Rendon got his hands through the zone in a hurry, dropped the barrel to the ball and gave it a ride. What a smooth looking stroke the rookie infielder has. Two pitches later, Ramos got in on the action, taking a fastball on the outer half and driving it over the scoreboard in right for his fourth homer of the season. Since coming off the DL this most recent time, Ramos is 9-for-18 with two homers, two doubles and 10 RBIs. That's quite a presence in the No. 8 spot in the order. This was the fifth time this season the Nats had hit back-to-back homers this season. Update: The Nats have now gone back-to-back in back-to-back innings. Yeah, I could've said "back-to-back in consecutive innings." But that wouldn't have been as fun. One frame after Rendon and Ramos went yard, Ryan Zimmerman and Jayson Werth did the same, and they did it on back-to-back pitches. Show-offs. Zimmerman's homer - his 11th of the season - was launched out to left-center on an 0-2 pitch. It flew out over the 387-foot marker, and before Zimmerman had a chance to grab a seat in the Nats' dugout, Werth was already into his own home run trot. The Nats' right fielder smoked a first-pitch cutter from Lee out to left, his 10th homer of the season. The Nats now have five players on their roster (their No. 2-6 hitters) with double-digit homers this season. Lee had allowed nine homers in 131 2/3 innings this season coming into this outing. He's surrendered four in six innings tonight. The Nats now have a 4-0 lead after six. Gonzalez has spun six scoreless innings and the Nats' bats are providing the fireworks.
