Rendon has tough Monday at second base, but turns a pair of double plays

Triple-A Syracuse Chiefs second baseman Anthony Rendon had a tough game Monday, going 0-for-5 with two strikeouts at Pawtucket in an 11-inning 6-5 victory. Rendon committed an error on a throw, his second error in as many games. He was involved in turning two double plays between shortstop Will Rhymes and first baseman Chris Marrero. Rendon is now batting .182 (2-for-11) in three games for Syracuse, but has an overall average of .307 in 36 games between Double-A and Triple-A. He has now played only eight games this season at second base after coming up as a third baseman. So attempting to adapt to a new spot mid-season is difficult, and the couple of errors is in no way going to deter him getting as many games and as many at-bats at second base. Similar to last season, when he was coming off the ankle injury, Rendon needs chances and more chances at second base to get into a nice groove and feel acclimated. Judging by his quality defense at third base, it won't take him long to get up to speed at his new spot. * Double-A Harrisburg right-hander Caleb Clay tossed back-to-back nine-strikeout contests to earn Eastern League Pitcher of the Week honors. Clay has gone 5-2 in 11 starts with a 3.69 ERA. The last two starts he went 1-0, allowing just one run in 15 1/3 frames. Clay joins Nathan Karns and Paul Demny as Senators who have earned the honor this season. * Six low Single-A Hagerstown Suns have been selected for the South Atlantic League All-Star Game. Manager Tripp Keister and pitching coach Franklin Bravo will also be representing the team at the 54th annual South Atlantic League All-Star Game on Tuesday, June 18 at FirstEnergy Park, the home of the Lakewood BlueClaws. The six representing the Suns are right-handers Robert Benincasa, Dixon Anderson and Ivan Pineyro, catcher Pedro Severino, second baseman Tony Renda and right fielder Brandon Miller.
