Showalter on Bundy's innings, Tillman on his right shoulder

Buck Showalter didn't sound like a big fan of innings limits today - at least one for young right-hander Dylan Bundy, who pitched 109 2/3 innings for the Orioles last season over 34 games that included 16 starts.

Showalter answered, "Yes," when asked if Bundy has enough innings this year to pitch in the starting rotation for the entire season.

"Anyone is going to put these exact acute numbers on everything," he said. "This one is going to feel this and at this (point) he'll feel that and there are no studies, no scientific stuff to back any of that up. It's just a bunch of people trying to, you know, create some niche that at exactly so many innings and increments you have to do exactly this. It's a crock.

"Anybody that gives that any credence doesn't know what they are talking about. So he's fine to go and if there is a problem along the way, we'll back up and leave it alone. But people in the arena chuckle at people that say this is what you have to do when a guy reaches X number of innings. It's a human body, not a machine."

No Tillman talks: Earlier today, both closer Zach Britton and third baseman Manny Machado said they were not involved currently in any contract extension talks with team management. Add pitcher Chris Tillman to that list. He can be a free agent at the end of this year, but nothing is happening right now about a possible extension, he said.

Does he expect talks to pick up soon?

"Probably not. I don't know, I haven't heard anything to be honest with you," Tillman said. "I think that would probably come a little bit later, probably a little more closer to spring training if it did happen. I haven't heard anything."

Tillman said he would prefer not to talk contract once a new season starts.

"I like to pitch once the season starts and not focus on much else. I like to focus on pitching and I think the other 24 guys that are there deserve that," he said.

Tillman went 16-6 with a 3.77 ERA over 172 innings last season. He spent time late in the year on the disabled list with right shoulder bursitus. But he returned to go 1-1 with an ERA of 3.79 in his last four regular-season starts. He feels the shoulder issue is no issue going forward.

"We worked hard this offseason to make sure it's behind me. A lot more shoulder stuff (exercises) than I'm used to but we worked hard and I'm pretty confident it's behind me," he said.

The Orioles announced this afternoon that attendance today at FanFest is more than 15,000.
