Stats, facts and notes from Wednesday's loss at Texas

Win and losses: The O's began their five-game road trip with a 4-3 loss to Texas Wednesday night. They are now 13-28 on the year and have lost four of their past five games. The Orioles are 5-16 on the road, 7-8 in one-run games and 3-8 vs. AL West teams. The offense comes up short: The O's fall to 2-24 when scoring three runs or less. They have scored just 13 runs with a team average of .257 over the last five games. The O's were 4 for 13 batting with runners in scoring position in the game after going 3 for 25 with RISP the previous four games. This was the Orioles third straight, 4-3 game and they have lost two of the three. Hail Cesar: Cesar Izturis went 3 for 4 with 3 RBI in the game. Izturis had knocked in just two runs over his previous 16 games. He has 9 RBI on the year and six came in two games (3 RBI on April 27 vs. NYY and on Wednesday at Texas). Izturis entered Wednesday's game with just two hits over his last 22 at bats and in a 4 for 41 slump. Ty Wigginton went hitless, 0 for 5 in the game, snapping his nine-game batting streak during which he hit .389. That was the longest hit streak by an Oriole this year. Luke Scott had two singles in four at bats. Over his last eight games, Scott is 15 for 30 with five homers and 10 RBI. Scott, who has hit seven homers in his last 13 games, hit just .194 in April, but is batting .367 in May. Adam Jones is 8 for 24 during a six-game batting streak and is hitting .340 (16 for 47) over his last 12 games, even though he has just one extra-base hit, a triple, in those dozen games. Jones average is at .251, its highest point since April 15. There is a long list right now of O's hitters not hitting much and/or not producing many RBI or extra-base hits: Atkins: Is 0 for 14 and 3 for 32 at bat and has just 1 RBI his last 22 games. Jones: Has just 1 extra-base hit his last 17 games. Markakis: Just 1 RBI the last 11 games and 4 in his past 17 games. Montanez: Is 0 for his last 18 at bat. Patterson: Is 3 for 18 after his 6 for 13 start. Tejada: Has 1 RBI his last five games. Wieters: Is 3 for 20 at bat and without an extra-base hit his last 10 games and without an RBI his last 12 games. After making just one error over the last 62 2/3 innings, the O's committed two errors in the game Wednesday night. O's starter Jeremy Guthrie gave up just one run and seven hits over six innings. His ERA is now 3.86. Guthrie has allowed 3 ER or less in seven of nine starts and this was his 7th quality start of 2010. Guthrie has allowed just 5 ER in 20 2/3 over his last three starts for an ERA of 2.18. For starters: O's starters have worked to an ERA of 2.78 over their last eight games.
