Stinson elects free agency

Right-hander Josh Stinson, who broke camp with the Orioles as a long reliever, has chosen to become a minor league free agent. Stinson's name appears on a list of 43 players provided by Baseball America. Stinson allowed nine runs and 16 hits in 13 innings over eight appearances for a 6.23 ERA. He walked six and struck out six. Stinson went 5-5 with a 5.48 ERA in 22 games (13 starts) at Triple-A Norfolk. He made the Orioles' roster out of spring training after allowing only two unearned runs and striking out 13 in nine exhibition innings. The Orioles outrighted Stinson to Norfolk on May 1 after he cleared waivers. They selected his contract on June 9 and outrighted him again two weeks later. Stinson never made it back to the majors. Now he's free to sign with any team. Brad Brach pretty much replaced Stinson as a right-hander capable of giving the Orioles length out of the bullpen. Infielder Omar Quintanilla, who appeared in 36 games with the Orioles in 2012, also elected free agency after spending parts of the last two seasons with the Mets. He could interest the Orioles again as they seek infield depth at Triple-A. Keep an eye on him.
