The Nationals open their final series before the All-Star break tonight in Miami, with Stephen Strasburg taking on Nathan Eovaldi in a battle of young, talented right-handers.
Eovaldi, acquired by Miami last season in the Hanley Ramirez trade, has made just four starts with the Marlins this season since coming up from the minors. The 23-year-old has gone 1-0 with a 2.55 ERA, 13 strikeouts and nine walks in 24 2/3 innings.
Strasburg has a 2.45 ERA over 106 1/3 innings this season, but is just 5-6 on the year. He picked up a win his last time out against the Padres despite allowing four runs in six innings.
That outing snapped a streak of nine straight starts where Strasburg had allowed two earned runs or fewer.
Strasburg is 5-2 with a 2.77 ERA in his career against the Marlins.
Ian Desmond will again bat second for the Nats tonight, while Adam LaRoche moves back into the No. 5 spot. Jayson Werth will hit sixth and Wilson Ramos will be back behind the plate catching Strasburg.
